Diverse Writers of Australia, or DWOA, is a volunteer-run initiative with a mission to promote and celebrate diversity in the Australian literary landscape.

Our aim is to give exposure to the many different experiences and perspectives of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander writers, writers of colour, writers with disabilities and LGBTQI writers by collecting, publishing and distributing their profiles to publishers, publications and arts organisations. With the information collected through our survey program, we will also aim to record and analyse the demographics of the Australian publishing sector on a yearly basis.

We encourage collaboration between our members and in future hope to further foster community spirit through special events.

If you would like more information, please contact us. If you are from, were raised in or are living in Australia and are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander writer, a writer of colour, an LGBTQI writer or a writer with a disability, please consider registering for our public or private database.

We are inspired by the efforts of, among others, First Nations Australia Writers’ Network, The Stella PrizeWomen in Literary Arts AustraliaMedia DiversifiedWriters of Colour and VIDA.

DWOA acknowledges the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of the nation, and acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands where our volunteers and members live and write.
